Amazing, amazing, with a hint of the library nerd and then combined with these amazing fabrics – it is happiness in motion. Anna, dear, I will take one of each. Thank you.

Carolann’s Seven Insights into Fashion Week

1.  The show is short. I mean, blink an eye and you might miss it, short. You stand around waiting to get into the venue for a while, and you sit in the venue for a longer while, and you wait to get out even longer … but the actual show may be about 15 to 20 minutes. But that 15 minutes is totally worth the wait. It is like a spectacle come to life with with the most beautiful fabric and females sashaying down the runway. The style.com pictures I so religiously scan through are good, they are – but nothing is like seeing the clothes live.

2.  Speaking of the spectacle, most people in the audience don’t pay attention at all – especially my fellow bloggers. Yeah, I am going to say it, ‘ get off your damn phones people!’ It borders on rude, really. You can pick {almost} each and every blogger out in the crowd because you never see her/his face – only the top of the head as a new twitter message is sent into the universe. I guess it is their job and I normally do avidly follow each bloggers tweets, but maybe shoot to look up once – or dare I say it – twice during a show.  I personally felt extremely rude because I kept my camera stuck to my eyeballs the entire time, but at least my camera is pointed in the direction of the show.

3.  The pit is the place to be. I want to be in the pit next season. There are very few dames in there. They need more ladies. Send me in folks, send me in.

4.  I always hear all this emphasis being place on sitting in the first three rows of any show. Do you actually know how many rows there are? There are a lot! There are like 1000 people in any one of the shows. I believe me honey I was NOT in the front row {even though my well-edited pictures may look as though I was right there.} And the truth, I did not feel any less fabulous because I was in section 4 – which was way way way off the to side in the back regions of fashion purgatory.

5.  Note – nobody in those aforementioned front three rows smile and/or look happy {with the exception of a very ebullient Brad Goreski whose smile lit up an otherwise gloomy VIP crowd}. They all look as though they are suffering through a body cavity search. Really, you do not need to be there people, I will take your spot – gladly and report back in minutia. You have one of the best jobs on the planet, enjoy it. I know I sure did.

6.  There is a lot to take in. My senses were overloaded. I couldn’t focus on anything. There are so many people there dressed in some of the most electrifying outfits that even walking to the show is a little fashion show in itself. And I tried not to rudely gawk at everyone as I went by – but dear friends I failed. I got a lot of eye-rolling and dirty looks. But I am me, and the me I am needs to look at everything.

7.  Fashion week is awesome. Period. I am hooked like Captain Hook.

  3. GREAT post sweetheart!! thank you for the awesome compliments and i love your insights. it was great chatting with you about these things and you already know i agree wholeheartedly about the tweeting during the show thing and about bloggers who care more about their seats than the actual show. it’s disgusting and gives bloggers a bad name. i’m so glad you share your thoughts on these issues!! =)
