STEP 1: First, make a decision … do you wish to be a character of smut or substance? If you are going the slut route, just do what every other slut-costumee does – go to Fredrick’s of Hollywood, buy the littlest negligee you can acquire, stick some sort of ears on your head, call it a day. However, if you wish to dress up as something a little more substantial this Halloween season, then hang around a bit longer.
STEP 2: Search through your closet. Believe me, there are some gems to be found. Don’t believe me do you? I brought proof all ye of little faith. These lovely ladies below rifled through their closets, used a little imagination, and created some really fabulous homemade costumes that are both affordably chic and insanely unskanky. I think my favorite is Jessica’s ‘Rosie the Riveter’, although Breanne’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ getup comes in a very very very close second.
Over the past several weeks I have heard gentle rumblings about this French line called Maje. And although I ordinarily lean towards more loud and boisterous designs, I must say I absolutely love every single piece of this entire collection. I love the quiet sophistication, and the astounding possibilities. These clothes are all so completely and absolutely interchangeable with each other, and could honestly be in fashion for my grandchildren’s grandchildren. I guess that really is just a part of the French fashion flair. And I guess I might need to consider investing in a few of these key pieces. I don’t know about you, but my first purchase would be that amazing red mini dress with those epic bell sleeves. Lust, love, need.

I know what you are thinking … ‘two posts in one day! Where does this dame find the time?’ Well, I was just so into the latest runway fashions that I had to share one more. However, I am doing this post un poquito different, because in DKNY’s latest collection there are truly truly truly some pieces I love {the hats most especially!} … and then some I uber hate {the loud, unwearable, unchic, vomit-inducing patterns – yes, I hate them}.
New York Fashion Week – which, little tidbit, actually spans about 10 days and happens twice a year – is one of my most favorite bi-annual times of year to gather inspiration. As a graphic designer, I truly feel that fashion and art and photography are all interconnected and I normally see the hot new design or hot new color from the runway in some way, eventually get translated into my little graphic design world. Especially since attending a show live, I find myself pouring over the – now extremely well photographed/filmed and no longer closed/stuffy - shows for weeks and weeks after. One of my favorites of this season was Christian Siriano, probably because he is totally flirting with feathers and feathers are the new in thing in Carolland. I just wanna shake my tail feathers {yeah, I said it} in some of these sexy, textured pieces.

Hello there, coverirls. You all look so fantastically vintage while at the same time so fantastically modern. Plus, you are wearing hats – a much beloved accessory in Carolland. Oh Louis dear, you really need to host a clearance sale in the OutNet or something similar for little ol’ plebeians likes me.
